Super Nintendo (SNES) - The Golden Age of Video Games

!±8± Super Nintendo (SNES) - The Golden Age of Video Games

The Super Nintendo (SNES) is considered by many to be the "Golden Age" of video games. This console brought the video game world into a whole new world by introducing new gaming concepts and ideas. It focused mainly on game play rather than graphics, and is still popular to this day among Nintendo Fans, collectors, and emulation users.

History of the Super Nintendo

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System was released on North America in 1991 around the same time as the Sega Genesis. There was a huge war going on between the SNES and Sega Genesis. Even though the Sega Genesis was released earlier giving it more game selection and lower price, the Super Nintendo held its own. As we all know, in the end Nintendo completely dominated the 16-bit video game market and remained extremely popular even into the 32-bit era.

Nintendo has always been considered a more "child friendly" video game brand. During the war between Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo, the Sega Genesis claimed to have more "adult oriented" games. The result being that Super Nintendo dominated the Sega Genesis, we can clearly see that game design and concept has far more significance than a targeted age group. Nintendo has always focused on creating new gaming concepts even until this day, and it is a major reason for its huge and sustained success.

Notable Games

The SNES has an ungodly amount of games, including one of the best video games of all time: Super Mario World. Super Mario World was absolutely ground breaking at the time of its release, and is still played by many gamers even today whether by the console itself or through emulation software. The Super Nintendo also gave birth to the first of the Mario Kart games. Perhaps one of the most legendary games of all time, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was released for the Super Nintendo as a continuation to the original Nintendo version.

Let's just cut to the chase and admit that the list of groundbreaking and legendary games released this amazing console is massive. It is safe to say that most of these games will not drop off the radar for many decades to come.

Emulation Software

Because SNES games are no longer in production, emulation software has become extremely popular in being used to play older video game consoles. Emulation software is usually free to download to your computer, allowing you to load up all of your favorite games. All you need is some sort of USB adapter to fit your Super Nintendo controller, or some other sort of computer controller with enough buttons to cover the functions of the SNES.

The most popular Super Nintendo emulator out there currently is the ZSNES emulator. This software will run flawlessly on any average computer system of today. ZNES even has an addon that allows you to play with other players over the internet as if they were sitting right next to you. This really brings back the good old memories of playing with friends and family.

Summary

In summary it is no surprise that many consider the Super Nintendo system to be the Golden Age of video games. It is always fun to return now and then to play your favorite Nintendo games, and thanks to emulation software it is certain that these games will live on forever!

Important Mistranslations of the New World Translation Bible of Jehovah's Witnesses

!±8± Important Mistranslations of the New World Translation Bible of Jehovah's Witnesses

Aside from the fact that the New World Translation of the bible was translated by a group of people with only a couple years of Greek training, there are a vast number of bible passages where it is clear that the Watchtower Society has smuggled their own doctrines into the scriptures where they are not otherwise found. Sadly, because the Watchtower requires Jehovah's witnesses to use this translation as their main study bible, the vast majority of witnesses will never even notice or realize the blatant mistranslations contained within the New World Translation, but instead merely take it as the actual word of God. We will be taking a look at a couple of the most important mistranslations of the New World Translation bible.

We begin by turning to John chapter 1, verse 1: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." The Watchtower society, however, has translated this verse: "and the word was a god." This is because they teach that Jesus Christ, the Word of God, is a created being, namely the Archangel Michael. What they don't realize is that this idea is already refuted by looking at the very beginning of verse 1. Notice it does not say that in the beginning "the word became," but rather "the word was." There was no beginning for the Word because it is eternal. As far back as you push the beginning, the world was already there. In terms of adding the article, if the Watchtower society were to be consistent, we would see this article added before the word "God" all throughout the new testament. However, we do not see this.

Next we turn to John chapter 8, verse 58. This reads: "'I tell you the truth,' Jesus answered, 'before Abraham was born, I am!'" The New World Translation reads "before Abraham was born, I have been." The problem with translating it this way is that Jesus uses the phrase "Ego eimi" which means "I AM." This is the very name of God used in the old testament in the book of Isaiah, and especially in the book of Exodus when God speaks to Moses. This is demonstrated by the fact that in the same context the Jews get very angry with what Jesus has just called himself, and they understood that He was claiming to be God. Therefore they picked up stones to stone Him. However, the Watchtower society hides this obvious claim by Jesus to be God by mistranslating "Ego eimi" as "I have been." It is not so much that the phrase "I have been" is false in this case, but rather that it implies that Jesus had a beginning as a created being, rather than an eternal existence as God Himself.

Next we turn to the book of Colossians chapter 1, verses 16 and 17. These verses are talking about Jesus Christ, and in the New World Translation reads: "For by him all [other] things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all [other] things were created by him and for him. He is before all [other] things, and in him all [other] things hold together." This is a blatant mistranslation, because the word "other" appears nowhere in the original Greek. The Jehovah's witnesses claim that these added words are "for understanding," and yet by adding these words they have changed the entire meaning of the passage. Again, because the Watchtower teaches that Jesus was a created being, we can see that He therefore can not be said to be the creator of "All things," as these verses actually state. So they decide to add the word "other" in so that their teachings are not contradicted by the scriptures.

It must also be noted that there are actually certain editions of the New World Translation where these extra words such as "other" are inserted without brackets, making it appear as though the original text contained these words. This is nothing short of frightening! There are a vast number of mistranslations beyond these few. However, by just looking at a couple of these verses and seeing the blatant mistranslations we can see why the Watchtower society has had to change so many verses of the Bible, as they do not line up with their teachings. As earlier stated, this is very sad because the vast majority of Jehovah's Witnesses will never read any other bible than the New World Translation, and therefore never have their eyes opened to these important mistranslations.

Brew Better Coffee With a French Press!

!±8± Brew Better Coffee With a French Press!

If you have exhausted all of your coffee brewing options for the utmost taste in your Java, then make sure that you try out the French Press. This is an alternative method of coffee brewing, but to those who have tried it, it is a favorite. Just to give you a rundown on what a French Press is, it is a large cylindrical pot that has a press in the top portion of it. You can then fill it with hot water and freshly ground coffee, and you plunge down the press so that it separates the grounds from the hot water to extract the final brew.

It may look intimidating to look at it, but it is exceptionally easy to use, and even easier to maintain. I would also like to point out that one of the major benefits is that it is eco-friendly because you are not using paper filters you throw away every day. You can freshly grind beans with your own grinder, and then you can place the coarsely ground beans in the bottom of your French Press. From there, you can heat up water, and using a kettle is the easiest, and then pour it into the French Press. You will let it sit for about four minutes for an average size French Press, and then you will plunge down the press filter directly. It is important to plunge it straight down without moving it to the side so that you don't release any of the grinds when you are plunging.

After that, you will have a rich and full brew product that you can pour directly into your mug to enjoy! The reason that the flavors offered by the French Press are so delicious is because the essential oils of the beans are not filtered out. Essential oils from the bean actually are what give the most depth and flavor to your coffee. Many traditional coffee makers do filter out the essential oils through the paper filters, and this will limit your taste. With a French Press, all of the essential oils remain in the cup of Joe that you are sipping, so you are not missing out on any flavors at all.

Another thing that Java lovers are enjoying about the French Press is the amount of control that you will get during the brewing process. You can choose the temperature of your water, and I recommend that it is not boiling since it cause the grounds to burn, and you can also control how long it steeps to extract the Java taste. Keep in mind that when you are brewing with a traditional drip brew machine, the hot water is only in contact with the grounds for just a few seconds while it brews. With the French Press, we are talking about four minutes minimum of water contact to extract the flavors from the grounds. Simply amazing! I recommend that you try any Bodum Chambord Coffee Press, either the 3, 4, or 8 cup variety for a flavor you will not forget.
